Why not a disk image (.dmg) ?
 - To build such file, it requires an Apple computer
 - It requires you to pay Apple a 99 $ developer account a year
 - You need to submit the application for approval by Apple for every update
 - You can install Java for ARM M1 chip to run this application natively if you have an Apple M1 chip
 - You can easily benefit of the latest performance and security improvements by updating the latest Java version

What about people with Gatekeeper disabled?
 - Unsigned dmg shows the incorrect message that the "file is damaged" and offers 2 buttons: Cancel and Move to trash.
 - Disabling Gatekeeper is not simple so this would result in a lot of support and/or bad reviews.
 - In further version of Mac OS X it may not be possible to disable Gatekeeper.
 - Even with Gatekeeper disabled, Apple doesn't allow unapproved applications to access important directories
   like Documents, Pictures, ...
 - Apple says it's for security reasons but there are security holes to access these directories
that Apple refuses to acknowledge and to fix for months.
 - Apple may terminate your developer account even if none of your applications contains viruses or malwares,
like they did for Epic Games.
 - Giving all control to Apple is not something you want as a user or developer.
Apple will use it to be more demanding, like they are now on iOS (Apple Sign-in, only Apple payment method, ...).
